If the content is non-hazardous, any type can be used legally. Since the main material is tin-free steel, it doesn't deform even at 100 ° C or higher, but for some parts containing resin or rubber deformation is expected. Also high and low temperatures may cause vacuum in the pail, degradation in the spare parts and may lead to unwanted accidents. To avoid please use pails at an average temperature.

Can I put oil in the pail?

There are a lot of different aspects that have to be taken into consideration, such as hazardous material, water solubility and water insolubility so we cannot give one certain answer. If the oil is hazardous, please choose a pail that is suitable for hazardous material transportation.

Tell me more about hazardous containers.

All materials are sorted into categories such as hazardous material, deleterious substance and poison. Some materials are sorted by the Japanese Fire Service Act, some by the United Nations Recommendation so choosing the container will depend on the destination and transportation method.

If the destination is overseas or anywhere else outside Japan,UN rated containers are mandatory.
UN containers are also mandatory for domestic marine and air shipments as well.
When shipping, hazardous materials must be packed/loaded into containers that are suitable for the class of danger.
We offer various UN rated standard and other container types specifically for transporting hazardous materials, so please feel free to contact us.

What does the pail material "TFS" stand for?

"TFS" stands for "Tin Free Steel", which is a surface treated steel plate. - adhered chromium metal / chromium oxide. It is mainly used for industrial cans like beverage cans, pails or other smaller cans. Unlike the common tinplate,Tin Free Steel does not use tin as a surface treatment agent. Compared to what we commonly call "iron", it is more resistant to corrosion and varnish adheres to it easily, thus allowing high quality surface printing.

Are there any cautions I need to take when handling pails?

Always store empty and full pails alike indoors and use them as soon as possible. Keeping them outdoors may cause rain to seep in from the cap and may lead to rusting.
Ensure an adequate airspace inside the pail corresponding to the content's amount (do not fill it up completely).
Properly set and tighten the top plate and cap to prevent leakage.
For details please see the handling instructions issued by the Steel Drum Industry Association.
